Julie

5 · Le DELF A2 blanc
Now do the full mock in the exam file, with real timing
Also in the exam file: how the TEF Canada and TCF Canada differ from the DELF, what an A2-level score maps to in NCLC terms, and strategies for each section. If your goal is Canada, read that part now, even though your real TEF sitting will be at B2.
6 · Et après ? — The road to B1 and B2
What B1 adds (the next 150–200 hours)
— the big one.
- Plus-que-parfait, futur antérieur, conditionnel passé; si + imparfait → conditionnel (hypotheses); reported speech in the past with tense shifts.
- Relative pronouns dont, lequel; pronoun order with two pronouns (je le lui donne); passive; gerund (en travaillant).
- Longer texts: understanding articles, arguing a point of view, writing a 160-word essay, giving a structured opinion and defending it — the DELF B1 speaking includes a debate with the examiner.
What B2 (NCLC 7) demands
- Understanding native-speed speech including Québec accents; reading press articles; writing a 250-word argumentative text; presenting and defending an opinion for ten minutes with a counter-argument.
- Roughly 400–500 more hours from where you are now. At 7 hours a week, 14–18 months. At 12 hours a week — with the free francisation classes once in Canada — under a year.
The plan
- Sit DELF A2 within a month of finishing this unit. A real certificate is motivating and a real deadline works.
- Enrol in a B1 course — Alliance Française Dhaka, or the free Québec/Ontario government classes once you land. Self-study got you here; a teacher for speaking correction is now the highest-value input.
- Switch your input to real French: one Québec podcast episode a day (InnerFrench for B1, then Radio-Canada), one series with French subtitles, the news at "Journal en français facile" (RFI).
- Keep Anki going — you have ~700 words from this course; B2 needs ~4,000.
- Write every week and get it corrected (a tutor, italki, a language exchange, the r/French community).
- Speak every day, even badly: language exchange, a Bangladeshi friend who is also learning, your son (children's French books are perfect B1 input, and he needs it too).
- Book the TEF Canada only when a mock shows B2 in all four skills. Sitting it early and scoring B1 does not help the application.
7 · Auto-évaluation finale
I scored 32+ on the mixed test, and I know which units to revisit for what I missed.
I completed the listening and reading sweep with 12+ correct out of 16.
I did the full mock DELF A2 under timed conditions and scored 60+ with 8+ per section.
I can say every can-do statement in section 2 is true of me, in French, out loud.
I have booked DELF A2 and decided how I will continue to B1.
